Classics department to be well-represented at CAMWS Annual Meeting this week

The department has a strong presence at this year's Annual Meeting of the Classical Association of the Middle West and South in Winston-Salem! If you’re attending CAMWS in-person or virtually, look for these members (in order of appearance on the program):

Associate Professor Tom Keeline, who co-organized the panel “Colonial Encounters: Latin in the Early Americas” on Thursday March 24 at 10:00am;

PhD student Fr. Bryan Norton, delivering the paper “On the Shores of Acheron (N. 4.85): The Power of Pindaric Song” in the panel on Pindar on Friday March 25 at 1:15pm (joined on that panel by MA alumnus Joshua Zacks, who is speaking on “Interactive praise of Syracusan Musical Culture in Pindar’s Olympian 1 and Bacchylides 5”);

Undergraduate Classics major Guowei Jia (Class of 2023), winner of both the Rudolph Masciantonio Diversity Award and a Manson Stewart Undergraduate Award, who will receive these awards at the Business Meeting pm Saturday March 26 at 8:00am;

MAT-Latin student John Harrop (Class of 2023), winner of a Manson Stewart Teacher Training Award to be announced at the same meeting; and

BA alumna Nina Bhatia (Class of 2021), presenting on “Antiracism, Allyship, and Antiquity: The Future of Classics” as part of the session “Classics: the Evolution of a Discipline” on Saturday March 26 at 1:15pm.

Say hello to them and enjoy your conference!
