The Suzanne Mizera and James Risch Fund for Student Research and Resources in Classics

The John and Penelope Biggs Department of Classics is thrilled to offer a new opportunity for all graduate students, majors, and minors in Classics and Ancient Studies to apply for funding for student research and resources in Classics. This opportunity is provided through the generosity of WashU Alumni Suzanne Mizera and James Risch. 

The Suzanne Mizera and James Risch Fund for Student Research and Resources in Classics will support the following projects and expenses for Classics students.

  1. The fund can support up to 40 hours of work as a paid research assistant to a faculty member in Classics. If you would be interested in such a paid research assistantship, check out our undergraduate research page or consult with members of the Classics faculty to see if they have projects in which you might assist.
  2. The fund can also help with expenses related to independent student research projects, including travel, materials, equipment, conference-related expenses, and other costs.
  3. The fund is also designed to assist Classics students with financial need in acquiring books, technology, and other materials necessary for their studies, and to provide emergency support for Classics students with financial need.

Apply for Funding

If you would like to seek funding from this fund for a research assistantship, to aid in your own independent research, or to acquire necessary books or materials that you would otherwise not be able to purchase without hardship, please fill out the application below and email it to tmoore26@wustl.edu. Initial review of applications will occur the first week of November, though time-sensitive requests for needed books and materials may be considered before then.

If you encounter an emergency for which you wish to request financial help from this fund, you do not need to submit an application. Instead, contact Tim Moore, Chair of John and Penelope Biggs Classics (tmoore26@wustl.edu), to explain your situation.
