The John and Penelope Biggs Department of Classics is pleased to announce that applications are now open for the 2026 cycle of the Penelope Biggs Travel Award. For the third year this award, supported by the Penelope Biggs Travel Fund and additional departmental sources, provides financial assistance for academic travel focused on the study of the ancient Greco-Roman world.
Funding is available to the following members of the WashU community engaged in research or study-related travel:
- All Washington University faculty
- Undergraduate and graduate students who are majoring, minoring, or have taken coursework in:
- Classics
- Art History & Archaeology
- Philosophy
Applicants must submit materials for a Penelope Biggs Travel Award by February 15.

- Per university policy, departments cannot provide funding to students after they have graduated.
- The university also prohibits funding student travel to locations under Travel Suspension Conditions.
