At Tuesday’s inaugural Arts & Sciences Teaching Innovation Showcase, Kate Wilson, Senior Lecturer in Classics, received the award for Integrating Experiential Elements that Facilitate New Skill Development. The recognition highlights her creative approach to bridging classical literature with hands-on learning.

Wilson captivated attendees by sharing how she incorporated experiential farming activities into her curriculum to deepen students’ understanding of Vergil’s Georgics, a poetic work that explores agriculture, nature, and human labor. By engaging students in real-world farming practices, Wilson enabled them to connect with the text beyond theory, fostering both practical insight and literary appreciation.

The showcase celebrated faculty who are redefining teaching through innovation, and Wilson’s work stood out for its ability to merge classical scholarship with tangible experiences that build new skills and perspectives.
