Tim Moore recently spent two weeks conducting research at the headquarters of the Thesaurus Linguae Latinae (TLL) in Munich, home to the world’s most comprehensive dictionary of classical Latin. In continuous development since the 1890s, the TLL is an unparalleled resource for scholars of the Latin language.
During his visit, Moore focused on archival notes related to the word tibia—an ancient Roman wind instrument that has been central to his research for many years. Since the letter “T” has not yet been published in the lexicon, Moore examined early documentation and preparatory materials compiled by the TLL’s original editors.
He plans to return to the TLL during his upcoming sabbatical to contribute articles to the lexicon, further deepening his engagement with this monumental scholarly project.
