Rudens: An Extraordinary Event Inspired by Extraordinary Women

Rudens, your chance to view a blast from the past . . . in a very modern form!

Please enjoy the videos below from our February 2021 day-long event on Plautus' Rudens. All of the hard work both past and present made this production a fantastic opportunity to learn, engage with the past, and experience ancient theater in a new medium.

Our event on February 6 began with four lectures introducing us to Plautus’ Rudens, to the story behind the historic 1884  performance in St. Louis, and to the cultural and academic landscape in which it emerged. In the afternoon after the lectures, members of the university and local Classics community gave a virtual performance of the play using the translation produced by the Ladies' Literary Society.

We hope you enjoy viewing the lectures and play as much as we enjoyed participating in them!
