Senior Lecturer Rebecca Sears was recently interviewed by Marieke Van Der Steenhoven, the Special Collections Education and Engagement Librarian at Bowdoin College in Brunswick ME, about her work on the Lewis Antiphonary. Prof. Sears received her undergraduate degree—a double major in Music and Classics—from Bowdoin College, and wrote her honors thesis on the Lewis manuscript. This thesis was the first attempt at an academic investigation into the provenance and contents of this late Medieval musical manuscript. The Lewis Manuscript is the centerpiece of a Fall 2024 Exhibition, “Hand in Hand”, at the Hawthorne-Longfellow Library at Bowdoin College that emphasizes Bowdoin’s tradition of involving undergraduate students in hand’s-on research in Special Collections.
