MA Students in the John and Penelope Biggs Department of Classics have received the following fellowships for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Incoming MA students Will Sieving and Zhiyuan Wang received Penelope Biggs Graduate Fellowships. This fellowship is provided through an endowment established by John Biggs in memory of his wife Penelope, a highly successful Classical scholar and teacher and, like her husband, an enthusiastic supporter of the department.

Incoming MA student Davis Holden received a Classics Graduate Support Fellowship. This fellowship is provided through funds given by various donors to our department who are eager that our graduate programs—especially our MA program—thrive and draw the best possible students.

Incoming MA student Sarah Mason received an Irma C. Schopp Graduate Fellowship. This fellowship is provided through an endowment established by Ms. Schopp for the support the study of Greek, Latin, and Hebrew at Washington University.

Returning MA student Tom Van Denburgh received a Robert Lamberton Graduate Fellowship. This fellowship, named in honor of Professor Emeritus of Classics Robert Lamberton and funded through the generosity of Maurine D. Watkins, is for a Washington University student who has completed at least four years of ancient Greek successfully and who shows promise of raising standards of classical scholarship and aiding in the discovery and development of those who must replace our great teachers.
