Two page spread in Ampersand

The Spring 2025 issue of Ampersand (pp. 38–39) features an interview with Nicola Aravecchia, Associate Professor of Classics and of Art History & Archaeology at WashU. Jenny Bird speaks with Aravecchia about his excavation work at Amheida in Egypt’s Dakhla Oasis and his new book, Early Christianity at Amheida: A Fourth-Century Church.

They discuss daily life at the remote dig site, surprising finds that reshape our understanding of early Christianity in the region, and how Aravecchia balances his roles as a classicist, archaeologist, and art historian.
