Classics PhD student presents at the 2020 Paideia Institute conference

Fernando Barreto De Morais, presented at the February 2020 Paideia Institute conference.

PhD student, Fernando Barreto De Morais, presented his talk, The Silencing of the Dead, at the 2020 Paideia Institute conference, Living Latin and Greek in New York.

Considering the conference theme, Neglected Voices, this talk makes a case for the intrinsic relevance of Classics by arguing that the voices of the dead are the most likely to be neglected, if not the most neglected ones collectively. Further argument expresses that by engaging in active Greek and Latin, we lend these dead voices not only our ears, but our entire living bodies. This is a concrete and essential step in providing these silenced voices a chance to speak and truly resonate within ourselves, beyond any obvious literal manner.
