Eta Sigma Phi and the Classics Club

Washington University in St Louis is home to the Alpha Xi Chapter of Eta Sigma Phi, the national honorary society for students of Classics. The chapter sponsors activities throughout the year, including Classics Movie Nights, readings, and community service activities. In the spring, outstanding students of Latin or Greek are inducted into Eta Sigma Phi at a special initiation ceremony. At graduation, inductees are distinguished by special cords.

The Eta Sigma Phi chapter is not connected to the Senior Honors track in the department.

You can apply to join Eta Sigma Phi during the annual call in spring, or fill out this form.

The Department also has a Classics Club open to all students who love discussing Classics and participating in Classics-related activities. The Club often liaises with the Eta Sigma Phi chapter to create meaningful activities, such as an undergraduate research symposium and movie nights. Please stop by the Classics office to find out what the Club is up to and for contact information.
