Bayla has a variety of research interests centered around ancient Greece, which they enjoy combining in pedagogically-inclined projects. They completed a commentary on the first 20 poems of the Carmina Anacreontea as an MA Thesis and are working on an intermediate reader of the entire collection. In collaboration with David Driscoll, they have self-published an intermediate reader on the Batrachomyomachia with vocabulary, notes, and illustrations.
Bayla is learning to play the ancient Greek seven-string lyre and enjoys composing new music for ancient poetry with a focus on rendering meter accessible. They can frequently be found in lecture audiences spinning thread on an ancient drop-spindle and they are in the process of exploring weaving techniques on the ancient Greek warp-weighted loom.
