2027 Biggs Family Residency in Classics
The 2027 Biggs Family Resident in Classics will be Gábor Betegh, the Laurence Professor of Ancient Philosophy at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow of Christ’s College, where he also serves as Director of Studies in Philosophy and Graduate Tutor. His research focuses on ancient Greek philosophy, particularly Presocratic thought, Plato, and Aristotle, as well as ancient cosmology, theology, and religious practices. He is internationally recognized for his work on the Derveni Papyrus, a key text in understanding early Greek philosophical and religious thought. Betegh has published extensively on topics such as Heraclitus, Empedocles, Pythagoreanism, and the philosophical significance of mystery cults in Plato’s works.
