Biggs Department of Classics Hosts End-of-Semester Celebration

The Biggs Department of Classics closed out the fall semester with a lively celebration on Tuesday, December 9, in McMillan Café. Students, faculty, and staff gathered for a festive afternoon featuring a catered lunch from Saucy Porka and a lineup of Classically inspired entertainment.

Highlights included a Socratic-style dialogue performed by students Celeste, Lucas, and Manuel, exploring the topic of Generative AI art. The presentation featured an accompanying slideshow and original artwork by Manuel, a student in the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts. Adding to the fun, the first-year Latin class delighted the audience with a comedic reading in Latin, showcasing both humor and linguistic skill.

Students, faculty, and staff also enjoyed a creative station where they decorated Greek and Latin-themed postcards and gift tags for the holiday season. The event offered a perfect blend of scholarship, creativity, and community spirit—an engaging way to celebrate the enduring relevance of the Classics.
