Ampersand Program Travels to Greece: A Reflection from Heidi Tamm

This summer, I had the amazing opportunity to accompany the Democracy and Myth Ampersand Program on its trip to Greece. We travelled all across mainland Greece, going to Athens, Olympia, Marathon, Delphi, and many more beautiful locations. I loved being able to visit many ancient sites I haven’t seen before, with my favorites being the Temple of Poseidon, Eleusis, and Nestor’s Palace. Besides being incredible trip leaders, Profs. Kathryn Wilson and Regina Loehr gave us excellent descriptions of each site, answering the students’ many questions. The first years had an infectious passion and interest in the places we visited, which they demonstrated through their great site reports and many chants (especially for the beach). I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to provide the students with historical background, travel advice for Greece, and information on the Classics department, as well as help aid with international travel. I learned so much over these two weeks and am so glad I was able to visit Greece again, and I already miss searching the museums for Cycladic statues and eating my daily spanakopita.
