Amaia Cook wins Lamberton-Rotroff Award

The 2019 undergraduate recipient of the Lamberton-Rotroff Award is junior Classics minor and English Literature major Amaia Cook.

Amaia is preparing to participate in the College Year in Athens summer course called “The Geography of Faith: Paul and the Emergence of Christianity in Greece,” which traces the steps of Apostle Paul in his dialogue with the first Christian assemblies. She will learn about the influence of the Greek world on Paul and visit sites Paul addressed in his epistles as well as Eleusis and Delphi, which provide context for the impact and growth of Christianity.

Amaia’s participation in Professor Jenott’s recent course on Paul inspired her to join study groups on the subject, including a weekly Greek reading group. She writes: “By immersing myself in Greece, I hope to bridge my studies with geographical exploration; texts, lectures, and discussions will come to life as I traverse the setting of Paul’s writings, providing tangible and observable insight into the rise of Christianity. The ability to engage with the world of Paul not only complements my studies, but also opens new doors of opportunities-such as exploring agoras, temples, and beyond to gain better comprehension of the richness of Greek culture and the history of the people.”
