LATIN 4961

This course will focus on a selection of written sources about Roman art and architecture from the time of Augustus to Late Antiquity. We will read the texts in the original Latin, and we will explore what they can tell us about the artworks and monuments themselves, as well as the possible motives behind their creation. The readings will be contextualized within their historical background and supplemented by presentations and discussions of the relevant archaeological and art historical sources. Prerequisites: L10 3171 & 3181 or the equivalent.
