Ana Maria Ribeiro

Ana Maria Ribeiro has earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music - Flute Performance from the University of Campinas (UNICAMP, Brazil) and a Master’s degree in Greek and Latin from the University of Vermont (UVM, USA). She has developed three funded research projects on ancient Greek music. Her research has spanned from ancient Greek musical theory and documents to the construction of ancient Greek musical knowledge today. Her last project focused on the study of the scholia (i.e., comments made by scribes) of Ptolemy’s musical treatise Harmonics. In this project, she proposed that the scholia of some manuscripts originated from the same lost source. Currently, she is a PhD student in Classics at Washington University in St. Louis, integrating her experience in musical instrument (flute), Ethnomusicology, Manuscript Studies, and Classics.
